Project labels
Categorize Projects with workspace-managed labels and label groups.
Overview
Project labels add flexible workspace categories without replacing Initiative membership, Team ownership, status, or priority. Use them for themes such as product area, platform, risk, or customer segment.
Labels appear in Project properties, List display fields, filters, grouping, saved views, and Activity. A Project can have several ungrouped labels and labels from different groups.
Add or remove labels
Open a Project and select Labels in its properties, or use the label control from a supported Project table surface. Search the workspace's active Project labels, select the values to apply, then close the selector.
Your selection saves as one Project metadata change. The Activity entry groups labels added and removed by that save instead of producing one row for every label.
Filter and group Projects
Choose Filter → Labels to show Projects with selected labels or No labels. In Display options, group or sub-group by Labels to create one section for each matching value. A Project with multiple labels appears in each matching label group.
Saved Project views store stable label IDs rather than copied names or colors. Renaming or recoloring a label updates current views without rewriting their lenses.
Create labels and groups
Workspace administrators open Workspace Settings → Projects → Labels to create a label or group. Each can have a name, description, and color. Add labels inside a group when the values belong to one shared vocabulary.
Creating a label from the label selector and opening label settings are also limited to workspace administrators. If you lose that authority, an unfinished label-creation form closes.
A Project carries at most one label from each group. Choosing a label from a group replaces the label already chosen from that group, so use a group for a single choice such as risk level, and ungrouped labels for tags that combine. If a Project already carried two labels from one group before this rule, both stay until someone changes that group's label on the Project.
Archive, restore, and delete
Archive labels or groups that should no longer be selected. Archived values remain available for history and can be restored from the settings filter. Deletion is guarded when a label is still in use; the dialog explains the blocking assignments or required cleanup.
The History action opens the workspace audit log filtered to Project-label configuration. Applying or removing labels on one Project remains in that Project's Activity.
Restricted or inaccessible Projects never become visible because they share a label. Filters, counts, selectors, and saved views continue to use the caller's authorized Project set.
