Issue Estimates
Configure Team estimate scales, estimate Issues, and read visible effort details without creating sprint commitments.
Issue estimates are optional Team-owned effort values for Integrity Issues. They help Teams compare visible work, find unestimated items, and inspect grouped effort without turning Integrity into a sprint planning or delivery forecasting tool.
Estimates belong to Integrity Issues. They do not mirror Linear estimates, Linear Project dates, velocity forecasts, SLA rules, or roadmap priority.
Configure Team estimates Owner Admin
Team estimate settings live in Team settings -> General -> Estimates.
Open Team settings
Open Workspace Settings -> Teams, select a Team, then open General.
Choose Issue estimation
Select Issue estimation, then choose Not in use, Exponential, Fibonacci, Linear, or T-Shirt.
Adjust enabled options
When a scale is enabled, choose whether to allow zero estimates, use the extended scale, and count unestimated Issues as one point in effort details.
Sub-Teams can inherit estimate settings from a parent Team. Private parent context uses display-safe copy when the viewer cannot see the parent Team.
Estimate scales
| Scale | Base values | Extended values |
|---|---|---|
| Exponential | 1, 2, 4, 8, 16 | 32, 64 |
| Fibonacci | 1, 2, 3, 5, 8 | 13, 21 |
| Linear | 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 | 6, 7 |
| T-Shirt | XS, S, M, L, XL | XXL, XXXL |
T-shirt values map to numeric effort points for summaries: XS=1, S=2, M=3, L=5, XL=8, XXL=13, and XXXL=21.
Not in use hides estimate edit controls and removes Estimate from Issue action, filter, display, grouping, ordering, and bulk-action menus. Existing values remain available as read-only history so a Team can re-enable estimates later without rewriting Issue history. Mixed-Team views keep Estimate available when at least one visible Team has estimates enabled.
Set an Issue estimate
When estimates are enabled for the Issue's Team, estimate controls appear in Issue create, Issue detail, and Issue table rows.
Use No estimate to clear the value. Use Shift+E in create and detail contexts to open the estimate picker when focus is not inside an editable field.
Direct-share-only readers can see the shared Issue's display-safe estimate value, but they cannot edit the estimate or enumerate the private Team's estimate scale.
Filter, group, and sort
When estimates are enabled for an applicable Team, Issue tables can display, filter, group, and sort by Estimate. Active chips and group labels use the current Team scale labels, including T-shirt labels and retained out-of-scale values.
Grouped Issue rows can show compact effort details for the visible rows in that group. Hidden private Issues do not contribute to visible counts, grouped effort, filters, exports, or agent payloads.
Effort details are for inspection only. They do not assign work, schedule work, imply a delivery date, or create cycle capacity commitments.
Activity and freshness
Issue estimate changes write Issue Activity with event-time old and new labels. Team estimate setting changes write Team Audit.
Estimate changes do not notify subscribers, send email, create unread Inbox rows, or show success toasts by default. Authorized readers refresh through private realtime and normal permission-aware refetches.
